Our Design Process

Initial Consultation

We begin every project with a complimentary consultation. Seth Glazer, owner and designer, will meet with you at your residence and discuss your landscaping needs. He will take measurements, photos, discuss design styles, budget, and your preferences.

Design Phase

Once the consultation is finished and your needs are discussed, an intricate, detailed, and graphically strong design plan will be created. The timeline varies depending on whether the design is 3D, hand-drawn, or photoshop. Our designs are beautifully crafted, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. Our designs are also architecturally responsive (fit into your home’s style), practical, and add something unique to your home that will even slow people down to look as they drive by.

Design Presentation

The design phase is over, now it’s time to look at VFT’s landscape proposal. Seth will meet you at your home and walk you through the plant and material selection, discuss specifications of the contract, and answer any questions. Revisions are ALWAYS allowed and encouraged, as your satisfaction is our goal. Nothing is set in stone. However, revisions do take us back to the design phase and will require a revised estimate.

Scheduling the Project

After the design presentation is over and the client decides to sign the contract, your project will be put on our schedule. How quickly we can complete the project depends on the time of year, type of project, and the current projects we have previously scheduled.

Installation

We are detail-oriented landscapers. Your project will be meticulously constructed, adhering to the agreed upon design. We will thoroughly communicate what we are doing and why, keeping you up to date every step of the process. We properly layout radii, arcs and curves to give the best contours possible. Proper bed elevations are created, along with the best possible weed prevention practices. Plants are accurately spaced according to mature sizes, and all construction details are precisely followed. Once we are finished, we do a final walkthrough to make sure you are satisfied. VFT’s dedication to landscaping excellence is what gives you that amazing yard.

Enjoy

With your landscape finished, now it is time to enjoy your space! Show it off to your friends and family and enjoy the beautiful creation. You won’t be sorry you used Vine & Fig Tree Landscaping!

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. We offer free consultations and do not require any payment to come out to your home and discuss your needs and wants.

Do you do lawn care and mowing too?

Vine & Fig Tree Landscaping is a licensed and insured landscape design-build contracting company. This means that we design, install, and maintain small to large scale landscape plans, such as but not limited to planting, lighting, water features, stepping stones, formal and informal gardens, retreats, and various other outdoor designs. We do not offer mowing, weedeating, and lawn care services, as we generally only maintain (mulch, trim, edge, fertilize, etc) the landscape designs we install. Landscape design is a different sector of the green industry than the maintenance and lawn care side, as we are focused on site analysis, plant selection, design and installation expertise, etc.

How do I know when it is time to trim my plants?

At VFT, we offer detailed landscape maintenance services on our installed designs. We will properly trim your plants at the right time and take the stress away. However, if looking to do it yourself, there are some factors that dictate when pruning should occur, such as whether the plant blooms on old or new wood, the goal of pruning, the health of the plant, bloom time, and disease factors. Generally speaking, dormant (winter) pruning is a good idea for most species, as you can remove dead branches, thin out canopies of trees, and shape up shrubs before it is warm enough for them to have new growth. Some shrubs can be pruned almost anytime (example-boxwood); however, proper knowledge is needed. For example, pruning rhododendron, hydrangea macrophylla, or fothergilla gardenii in early spring will dramatically decrease or possibly prohibit blooming, as you will be trimming off lasts year’s growth which is the wood that gives way to bloom.

We have a landscaping project we want to complete, but it is winter now. Do I have to wait until spring?

Fortunately for you, there are plenty of landscape projects that old man winter does not keep us from completing. As long as the ground isn’t frozen, we are able to plant shrubs, trees, carry out pruning work, install hardscapes, and complete lighting and water feature work. However, if you are wanting an annual/tender perennial garden, we must wait until after the threat of frost has passed to complete that portion of the work. Call now to secure your spot.

I kill every plant I touch. Is there any hope for me having a beautiful yard?

Absolutely! We deal with many clients who claim they have a “brown thumb”. Vine & Fig Tree always sets our clients up for success with proper planting practices, low maintenance plantings, and easy to care for designs. We fertilize, prune, and water when planted. Most plants we use in our designs are hardy in our area, durable, and easy to grow. Many plants we use also respond well to not so favorable conditions. Proper watering is all we ask of our clients, and we do the rest! But don’t worry, we thoroughly walk you through what is needed, and you will be surprised by the results!

What is your service area?

We service clients within Huntington, WV, and surrounding areas (Barboursville, Milton, Culloden, Proctorville, Ona, Lavalette, Lesage, etc.) Generally, a 10-15 mile radius. We will travel farther on a case-by-case basis.
